 THE KLINIK (B)
In 2003 Dark Entries brought thé Belgian electro cult act The Klinik (Dirk Ivens + Marc Verhaeghen) back amongst the living on our second Bimfest. This performance was such a huge success and astonishing experience that a rebirth was only a matter of time. A few selected resurrection concerts followed.
But there is more to come! Five years after this legendary reunion concert we invited The Klinik back on stage, but not without a reason! The Klinik will present for the very first time since 1990 and exclusively @ the bimfest brand new material (!!!) live on stage from the upcoming new album to appear early 2009. Be warned, the new material sounds as strong as their legendary classic songs, which will be played too of course and carry the same dark and dense atmosphere!
As we put it in 2003 The Klinik are dark electronics with a capital D as they were back in the ’80, and will proof they still are in 2008! Thé Belgian dark electro cult act, which inspired countless other bands and individuals in today’s electro scene and electro scene to come. This concert is again not to be missed! Those who saw them 5 years ago already know The Klinik heats a concert hall to tropical temperatures and is a sonic live experience your tortured legs and disturbed head will never forget. Once trapped in their phenomenal dark and cold as ice electro sound you’ll never get out! Do not miss this!

 | THE NAMES (B)
The Names are a Belgian new wave band (formed in 1978 around bassist and songwriter Michel Sordinia), that made it on Joy Divisions label Factory Records! After local gigs as The Passengers, they changed their name in time for their debut single 'Spectators Of Life' (released by WEA in 1979), that sounded as a sort of premature cold wave.
On a Joy Division concert in 1980 at Plan K in their hometown Brussels, they managed to hand their demo to Factory label manager Rob Gretton and they were promptly signed! The Names recorded their second single 'Nightshift' in Manchester in the summer of 1980, with legendary producer Martin Hannett, who also worked with Joy Division and lots of other new wave bands. The single is representative of their overall sound: dark, controlled modern rock (say cold wave) in the mould of Magazine, Comsat Angels and Joy Division/early New Order, with accomplished keyboards and songwriting.
The Names enjoyed a long and rewarding relationship with mercurial producer Hannett, who also oversaw their next single 'Calcutta' (Factory Benelux, 1981) and their debut album, full of melancholic guitar wave: 'Swimming' (Les Disques du Crepuscule, 1982). With him, the band created a lush, syncopated, drum-machine-based sound for Sordinia's memorable melodic hooks, resulting in some of the more evocative records by any of the moody, atmospheric bands of those days.
A final Names single, 'The Astronaut', was recorded in 1982, again produced by Hannett. Then the band split up. The Names returned on 15 December 2007, performing at the A Factory Night (Once Again) event at Plan K in Brussels (with Section 25, Crispy Ambulance and Kevin Hewick). At our BimFest, they present their new album!
A video of one of their new album songs can be viewed in our news section!

VOMITO NEGRO (B)
Vomito Negro already took off way back in 1983, and over the past years they established a name for themselves as uncompromising aural architects, combining power with emotion, electro with vision.
Vomito Negro is Latin for “black vomit”, a phenomenon that arises in the last stage of the disease yellow fever, when the patient throws up his putrefied intestines and ultimately dies. Macabre? One might consider Vomito Negro's interest in the darker side of the human condition as unhealthy, but in fact it’s fuelled by a desire to cope with and to understand life (and consequently, death) as we know it. Vomito Negro handles their topics with grim sarcasm and/or penetrating personal involvement; under the surface however, they give way to a message of redemption, passion and purification.
From the start on, flexibility and diversity is one of Vomito Negro's major qualities. Vomito Negro is never content with a certain formula: their musical approach, essentially based on the European “Industrialist” tradition of the early eighties, takes a different angle with every record. Vomito Negro established to be one of the most important Industrial European bands of 80’s & early 90’s and built up a great following since. Then, after numerous successful releases like 'Shock', 'Human' & 'The New Drugs' (to name a few) and discontent with the result of their last studio album ‘Fireball’, Gin Devo decided to put Vomito Negro aside and to invest all his energy and creativity in his new project called Pressure Control and released the debut album ‘Vamp’ (Daft Records). After only two more concerts Guy Van Mieghem sold his studio equipment and stopped all his musical activities later that year…
Vomito Negro went into a sleep mode…
Now, in 2008 Gin Devo decided the time was ripe to re-animate the sleeping beast Vomito Negro. After asking BORG, who already was a member of Pressure Control, to join the band, the duo is working hard on a new VOMITO NEGRO album that will be released towards the end of the year! Some of these new tracks like ‘Black Tie – White Shirt’ and ‘Darkmoon’ were already tested on the crowd of the latest Gothic Festival in Waregem, with success!
On our BIMfest you can expect mixture of their classic tracks and some new material!

THE CASSANDRA COMPLEX (UK)
The Cassandra Complex is an influential electronic music group from the United Kingdom. The band was formed in Leeds by mastermind-singer Rodney Orpheus, Paul Dillon and Andy Booth. The threesome released their first single in 1984. Rodney later relocated to Hamburg, Germany where he was joined in 1990 by guitarist Volker Zacharias (also in Girls Under Glass), who has remained with the band ever since. Over the years, the Cassandra Complex sound has included elements of EBM, Industrial, Goth Rock, New Wave and Synthpop. Throughout the main part of their career, the band was signed to the Belgian label Play It Again Sam (PIAS).
In 2007, the band played several festival shows across Europe & South America featuring the original line-up of Orpheus, Dillon and Booth, plus the addition of Zacharias. Their show at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig will be released as the live album ‘A Thousand Points Of Light’. The same line-up will hit the stage of our 7th Bimfest, the 20Th of December 2008 in Antwerp, to present you with their absolute best-of and some new tracks from their upcoming album they’re currently working on. The Cassandra Complex will prove they’re still alive and kicking, so be there or be square!

 SIGNAL AOUT '42 (B)
The Signal Août '42 story started for real in 1986 with the release of two 12' singles named 'Pleasure And Crime' and 'Girls Of Vlaanderen'. Some saw a close connection in the name to EBM legend Front 242 and even the music sounded as what had become the legendary Belgian electro /ebm sound. They proved wrong, SA 42 is the musical outlet of creative brain Jacky Meurisse. SA42 released more 12' in the years to come and they all became cult classics in the Belgian electro underground but, as often is the case, even more abroad.
In 1989 the first album 'Pro Patria' saw light of day and the 'Submarine dance' track became an instant electro classic. More successful albums followed; 'Contrast' (1991) with the famous 'Dead Is Calling', and 'Conviction' (1993) including some versions of another SA42 classic 'Waterdome' Then suddenly Jacky Meurisse seemed to have disappeared from planet electro, or at least he changed worlds and became commercially interested in trendy techno and dance music for the masses.
In 1995 the new born label Out Of Line summarized the career of SA42 with the best of release 'The Immortal Collection' (1983 - 1995), placing SA42 back and well deserved on the electro map again. Out Of Line became huge and little did they know that in 2007 they would release a completely new SA42 double album 'Transformation' that can be considered as one of the best electronic albums from 2007.
Loyal to its roots but open for a darker, very dense and gloomy but yet danceable experience Jacky Meurisse again shows phenomenal electro talent by building up a characteristic identity and a distinctive sound, one that will still shake any club and that builds up an atmosphere that few in today's electro scene can match.
So, girls and boys of Vlaanderen and elsewhere keep your ears open for this high potential electronic dance floor warfare!

 | NO MORE (D)
Very famous for their 1981 minimal wave hit “Suicide Commando”. Did you know that Belgian electro act Suicide Commando named himself after that song? But don’t mistake No More for a one hit wonder; they have several other fine new wave tunes (also more guitar oriented stuff) as you can hear e.g. on “7 Years - A Compilation 1979-1986”, a compilation we strongly recommend.
No More were founded in the summer of 1979 by Andy A. Schwarz (vocals, guitar, bass), Tina Sanudakura (synthesizers), Christian Darc (drums, vocals) and Thomas Welz (bass, vocals) in Kiel, a town by the sea in the northern part of Germany. The 7' EP 'Too Late' was the first release in 1980 and was recorded in a small laundry-room with a 4-track TEAC. Thomas Welz left the band at the end of 1980 and the rest continued as a trio up to the end of 1983 when Yvonne Pfeifer entered the band. She was replaced by Thorsten Hartung in 1984.
After the release of the 10' mini-lp “A Rose Is A Rose” in 1982, No More decided to change their style into a mixture of dark wave with oriental elements. No More decided to go separate ways in 1986, shortly after finishing their LP “Hysteria”.
In 2006 Tina Sanudakura and Andy Schwarz decided, while working on the “Remake/Remodel” album, to write a new chapter in No More's history and are currently working on songs for a new album...

 PLASTIC NOISE EXPERIENCE (D)
PNE, Plastic Noise Experience probably was and is the German electro act with the strongest 'Belgian' approach and feel (PNE was signed for years on the Belgian KK Records label and is now on the Belgian Alfa Matrix label).
Back in 1989 Claus Kruse formed his musical outlet and scored in 1992 a major success in the electro scene with the brilliant and must have release 'Transmission' (originally rereleased in 1991, followed by a lot of hybrid rereleases). Influenced by acts as The Klinik (also present @ this year's bimfest) the band still produces a danceable minimal cold electro sound and succeeded in many dark dancefloor hits as 'Kill What Kills You', 'Digital Noise', 'City Of Lies, 'D-Ranged, 'Plastik Fantastik', 'Clean Head' next to timeless classics such as 'Gold', 'Memory Flow', 'Kill The 6', Reduction', to name a few P.N.E. overpowers you with an engulfing and explosive sonic experience building the bridge between the original Neue Deutsche Welle roots and 21st Century's 'less is more' electronic movement!
A performance by PNE is always a party and who knows @ this year?s Bimfest Klaus will team up with Dirk Ivens again to perform Klinik's 'Moving Hands'?
Be sure to experience timeless old school minimal electronics, there is no better in it's kind!

 THE ARCH (B)
Back in the eighties, in a small village called Breendonk, a group of young people tried a new direction with a combination of samples, synths and guitars: The Arch, a four piece, was formed in mid 1986. Their music can be described as a cross between electronic body music and guitar rock with each instrument maintaining its individual sound.
The Arch sent their first demo, “Revenge Revival”, to Dirk Ivens’ Body Records and the track appeared on the compilation “Expo 87”. Ludo Camberlin (Anything But Records) immediately felt the potential of the band too and released a new “Revenge Revival” mix and 3 other tracks on Anything But Records. The first Arch EP, “As Quiet As” was a fact. It was clear The Arch had to focus abroad where their music was called crossover.
It appeared to be the right decision. They had gigs in places other beginning bands could only dream of: Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Zagreb, Belgrade, Budapest etc. The first album, “A Strange Point of You” (1988) was also released on Anything But Records, and then Antler-Subway became their record company. After “The Only Thing” in 1991 The Arch split. Months became years but in 1997 a German label released a new album called “In Sofa” and afterwards a compilation and a double compilation cd was available over there.
The Arch can now look back at a 20 years catalogue of good songs. Some of our favourites are “Revenge Revival”, “Ribdancer”, “No Noise” and of course – probably their most famous song, inspired by the junk book “Christiane F.”- “Babsi Ist Tot”.

CATHOLIC BOYS IN HEAVY LEATHER (CH)
They first met in 1989 as young recruits in the Swiss Guard in Vatican City. After many years of serving and protecting The Holy Father they got a bit bored and discovered their mutual fascination for loud music and heavy leather. Catholic Boys In Heavy Leather was born! From then on Joke Stryker and Rotor Siffredi cruised the realms of central Europe to convert all the lost souls down the valley deep and up the mountain high. The rest is history! Hallelujah!
And now serious: Catholic Boys In Heavy Leather is an electro-industrial act from Switzerland, most famous for their hilarious ‘cover’ of Boney M’s “Daddy Cool”. Their only release until now “Nobody Urged You To Get Canonised” is a holy mass of sampling and industrial preaching, concerning the two most important topics in modern civilization: sex and religion!
We suggest that those who might be offended by their übergay image stay at the bar. The rest is welcome to enjoy their show at BIMfest. Es wird ganz toll!

 PSY'AVIAH (B)
Created in 2003, Psy'Aviah entered the spotlight for the first time when they won Belgium's national radio station Studio Brussel's demopoll. Their debut album ‘Creationism’ and their sexy and dynamic live performances allowed them to establish themselves on the Belgian indie scene as one of the most promising talents, with comparisons to e.g. Sold Out, Praga Khan or yet Front 242.
With an open-minded progressive electro-rock music approach at the crossroads of dark EBM, electro clash and industrial rock, the band manages to reach a rather diversified audience. While teaming up again with producer Len Lemeire (from Implant/32Crash fame) for the recording of their second album, the trio scores a top 20 entry in BBC’s ‘The Next Big Thing’ contest with their collaboration with poet Suzi Q. Smith and ends up signing to Belgian record label Alfa Matrix.
On their new CD ‘Entertainment Industries’, Psy'Aviah integrates elements of noise and distortion into their intricate melodic electronics reinforcing the rawness of the emotional purity of their work. At BIMFEST 2008, Emélie, Yves and Kristof will blow you away with their sensual and danceable show, so be sure to come early and give them the support they deserve!
